|Q:||How do I store Molecular Weight Standards?|
|A:||Storage of Polymer Standards
Store your standards in a dark cool area in a refrigerator (4oC) tightly recapped. This keeps excessive moisture away and increases the standard shelf life. This is especially important for low molecular weight standards.
WARNING: NEVER store standards under direct sunlight (windowsill or shelf near windows), to prevent sample degradation over time. This warning is critical to polyisoprene, polybutadiene, and other temperature and/or light sensitive polymers. Usea dark container and refrigerator. The PSS kit box with the packaging foam in place will suffice.
Water-soluble polymers require cool and dry storage conditions in properly sealed vessels. The variability of moisture content depends on several parameters (e.g. surface, molecular weight, sample preparation, storage conditions, etc.). Moisture content should be determined before starting any measurements that would relate to polymer mass.
Do Not store organic or aqueous standards after they are in solution. Aqueous standards are susceptible to degradation upon solubilization.
